Wedding Planner or Wedding Plan?

 What is the difference?

A Planner: is used to keep track of dates, purchases, services, guests.

A Plan: is what puts all of your wedding day events in order.

As a professional photographer in southern Arizona, I have observed many weddings and have encountered many of the problems stated on the problem page.

Anyone can get advise from their florists, minister, DJ, Band, Videographer, family, friend or event coordinator. There are some problems however, a florists can only help with the floral arrangment's color, style and size.

The Priest or Minister can advise the couple on the time the ceremony will start, the length of the ceremony and how long they can use the church after the ceremony for photographs.

A videographer is not involved with people at the church. They only video tape the ceremony and only spend 1-2 hours of the reception.

The limo company just knows what time the bride and groom will be picked up and where they will be dropped off.

The band or DJ can help with the reception events only.

The caterers can also help with the reception events but neither the band/DJ or the caterer have a clue on how long each of the events take or how long the photographer and videographer is scheduled. (There is nothing worst than having to pay $200.00 to $400.00 more for overtime).

Wedding coordinators could help the most but if they are not photographers, they could missa inform the couple on the time required for photographs before and after the ceremony. If they don't videotape weddings they have no clue how long it takes to setup the tripods, cords, cameras and microphones.

On the other hand, photographers are the only ones that are with the clients from the pre-ceremony photo session to the end of the reception. In some instances, a photographer starts taking photos at the home before she even puts on her gown.

Weddings and Quinceañeras require special care and attention.

The scheduling of events is very crucial to your day. Things will not fall in place for you unless everyone involved with your wedding knows what you want.

As a professional photographer, I have photographed over 1050 weddings and many of these weddings have had numerous
problems. In the 25 years of photographing weddings I have not been to a wedding or Quinceañera where all these problems happened all at once but there has been some very close calls.

Besides photography, for the past 7 years, part of my service has been to analyze and figure out a schedule of events (itinerary) for the entire Wedding or Quinceañera day. This itinerary makes my job and other service provider's jobs easier.

Some people have Wedding or Quinceañera coordinators and others plan everything on their own. Even the most experienced coordinators can missinform you about the amount of time needed for photographs and travel time needed between the church and reception. This travel time is critical for limousine schedules. Photographers and Videographers also require additional time for travel and time to setup all equipment once they arrive at the reception.
